About Kayaking
The self-serve kayak kiosk at the Floodwood Riverwalk Pavilion offers an easy way to explore the scenic waterways of northern Minnesota. Located at 323 W. Railroad St. in Floodwood, the station features eight kayaks, with paddles and life jackets included with every rental. Paddlers can launch from the Floodwood Public Water Access next to the kiosk or choose nearby access points at Paupores and Highway 29 to explore the St. Louis River.
The Floodwood River is ideal for beginners and intermediate paddlers, offering a gentle current and a relaxing trip through beautiful natural surroundings. More experienced kayakers can venture onto the St. Louis River, where faster currents provide a more challenging adventure. River conditions vary, so paddlers should plan accordingly, especially if traveling upstream.
The rental station is open daily from sunrise to sunset. Rentals cost $25 for up to two hours or $40 for up to four hours, while GO Members receive discounted daily and weekly rates. To rent a kayak, simply download the app, create an account, scan the QR code at the kiosk, and unlock your kayak. Return the equipment to the station after your trip and enjoy discovering the beauty of Floodwood from the water.
