The annual Horseshoe Lake and Lake Minnewawa Boat Parade is held on the Saturday closest to Independence Day, bringing together residents, seasonal visitors, and lake families for a festive afternoon on the water. The parade begins and ends at the Horseshoe Lake Inn and follows a route through Horseshoe Lake and Lake Minnewawa, with stops at local lakeside destinations along the way.
Participants decorate pontoons, fishing boats, personal watercraft, and other vessels with creative themes, costumes, and displays. Entries range from superheroes and fiesta-inspired designs to Mardi Gras celebrations and other family-friendly themes. Awards are presented in several categories, including large boat, small boat, children’s costumes, and adult costumes.
The event traces its origins to a small family parade that began more than 25 years ago on Horseshoe Lake. Over time, it expanded into a community tradition that now attracts multiple generations of participants and spectators. Families return each year, contributing themed boats and costumes while helping preserve one of the area’s longstanding Fourth of July traditions.
