About the McGregor VFW

McGregor VFW Post 2747, chartered in 1936, reflects a rich legacy of service, sacrifice, and community. As it approaches its 90th anniversary in 2026, the post stands not only as a gathering place for veterans but also as a symbol of deep local history shaped by the Farah family.

The story begins in 1921, when Rose Farah moved her family from Duluth to McGregor after the tragic death of her husband. Seeking a safer environment, she traded her grocery store for property that included several buildings—one of which became Farah’s Hall. Her son, Joseph “J.P.” Farah, later transformed the hall into a lively community center featuring a roller skating rink, dances, and movies, making it a social hub during the 1930s.

During World War II, the hall also became a place of connection, where letters from servicemen were shared with families. In 1949, the building was officially purchased by the VFW, becoming a permanent home for local veterans.

Today, McGregor VFW Post 2747 continues to honor veterans, support families, and bring the community together, preserving its proud history for future generations.
