About ANGELS

ANGELS was founded in 2004 to coordinate transportation for older adults and has since expanded to help residents age 60+ (55+ if Native American) live safely and independently at home. Services include transportation to appointments and errands; chores such as yardwork, snow removal, and minor home maintenance; homemaking support like meal, grocery, and prescription delivery; consultations to address safety and self-care needs; and visiting through the Friendly Connections program, which provides regular calls, visits, and wellness checks.

Over time, ANGELS has built strong relationships with clients and continues targeted outreach, especially in rural areas. Many volunteers later become clients, reflecting trust in the program. Transportation for frequent medical visits—often to distant cities—remains a challenge, though some volunteers provide ongoing driver support.

ANGELS has evolved beyond transportation by identifying emerging needs. For example, a 2021 grant funded installation of E911 signage to improve emergency response. Client and family feedback, along with annual surveys, guide service development, highlighting the importance of social connection.

With Aitkin County’s older population expected to remain high, demand for services will continue growing. ANGELS is supported by grants, donations, and community fundraising, ensuring its ability to adapt and serve into the future.
