Kirby's Place
Located 11 miles north of McGregor on the scenic west side of Big Sandy Lake, Kirby’s Place is the newly reimagined dining destination formerly known as Fisherman’s Bay Bar & Grill. Proudly owned and operated by Kirby Gossen and Laura Estes, this welcoming lakeside restaurant blends small-town hospitality with more than 60 years of combined food service experience.
Kirby, a Minnesota native, began his career at Twin Pines Restaurant on Mille Lacs Lake before working at Kelly’s on Gull Lake and Trophy’s on Mille Lacs Lake. After years of successful business ownership in Tennessee—including launching a popular festival-style food truck—he returned home to bring his passion for quality comfort food back to the McGregor area. Laura’s diverse background includes farm work, fast food management, bartending, concessions, and restaurant service, making her an integral part of the operation.
With the slogan “Restaurant Eats and Carnival Treats,” Kirby’s Place is known for its made-to-order cheese curds reminiscent of those at the Minnesota State Fair, indulgent fried desserts, hand-cut fries, fresh-ground burgers, and hearty entrées. Whether stopping in by boat, snowmobile, or car, guests can expect fresh ingredients, friendly service, and unforgettable flavor year-round.
