Following the repeal of prohibition, Buster Whittet opened Buster’s Liquor Store in 1934. At the time, the McGregor area had a total of 11 beer licenses. However, Buster’s was the only liquor license and sold shots of whiskey for 15 cents! Throughout the years, Buster’s became known by many subsequent owners’ names such as: Myrtle’s, Randy’s, Cleon’s, and Roger’s. It was even known as the Lutheran Lounge after it was discovered that upon Roger Sawyer’s death in 1969 he left the bar to the Log Church on Big Sandy.

Lasting only a year since not all members of the congregation thought that the church should be the owner of a tavern. The church sold it to Gene Knutson and it became Gene’s Bar.

The bar became known as Buckhorn Bar after Buckhorn Beer in 1972 under the ownership of Mr. and Mrs. Boswell. The Boswells used to sell 100 cases of Buckhorn Beer a week! 

Sandy Rian, Dick and Pat Sorenson, Jim and Jackie Dilley, Gary and Sandy Taylor, Kathy Eken and Cory Eken all kept the Buckhorn Bar name.
