Floodwood Fair Celebrates Community, Crowns Queen

FLOODWOOD, Minn.— The Floodwood Fair brought residents and visitors together Aug. 21 for a day of entertainment, activities, exhibits and community pride, highlighted by the coronation of the 2026 Miss Floodwood.

Miss Floodwood 2025 Dylann Miller crowned Lacey Wojtysiak as her successor during the annual coronation ceremony. Wojtysiak, daughter of Kent and Missy Wojtysiak, represented the community throughout the fair and sold an impressive 1,185 wristbands. Fairgoers enjoyed activities for all ages, including a bounce house, games, face painting, a petting zoo, temporary tattoos, a ceramic class and a weaving tutorial. Live music by Brian and Missy added to the festivities, while vendors offered a variety of goods and services. The food booth was open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
History also came alive along the River Walk with the Savanna Portage Fur Trade Encampment, giving visitors an opportunity to learn about the area’s early fur-trading history.

A highlight of the Floodwood Fair is the annual exhibit competition, where residents of all ages display their talents in domestic arts, creative arts and horticulture.
This year’s sweepstakes winners were Becca Peterson in Creative Arts, Bill Manner in Horticulture Arts and Carrie Johnson in Domestic Arts. Lillian Degeorge was named Junior High Point Winner.

Domestic Arts winners included Jancie Fagre in conserves, jams, marmalades and jellies; Bernice Johnson in bread and rolls; Becca Peterson in cakes and cookies; Susan Jussila in quilts; Kay Farrell in extra miscellaneous; Janice Fagre in crocheted and knitted items; and Johnson in clothing. Adeline Heavirland was the junior winner in bread and rolls, while Lilly Degeorge earned the junior crocheted and knitted honor.

Creative Arts featured strong entries in both adult and junior divisions. Rex Waters won shopcraft, with Charlie Peterson the junior winner. Sue Chalstrom topped handicraft/art craft, with Sunlynn Belden winning the junior division. Becca Peterson won pictures/dolls, while Evelyn Juusola was the junior champion.
Photography winners included John Dahlman in black-and-white single photo and color single photo. Kinlee Anderson was the junior winner in black-and-white single photo, Janaya Ghorman won the junior color single photo division, and Christina Cariveau topped color multi-photo.

Horticulture Honors

Horticulture exhibits showcased the work of local gardeners and growers.

Dani Larva was produce division champion, with Eli Bennett earning the junior honor. Bill Manner won the potato division and was also the Horticulture Arts sweepstakes winner. Jean Bennett topped the five-class division, while Becca Peterson won the garden display and artistic arrangements categories.

Nancy Reynolds was the cut flowers champion, with William Bayerle the junior winner. Jan Dornseif won both outdoor and indoor potted plant divisions. Hank Peterson earned the junior award for outdoor potted plants, while Lilly Degeorge was the junior indoor potted plant winner. Hank Peterson also won the junior artistic arrangements division.

With family activities, live entertainment, historical displays and competitive exhibits, the Floodwood Fair once again offered something for everyone while celebrating the talents and community spirit of Floodwood.

The coronation of Wojtysiak as Miss Floodwood 2026 provided a fitting centerpiece to the celebration and welcomed a new representative for the community.
