About Big Sandy Lake Association

The Big Sandy Lake Association is a community-driven organization of approximately 685 members dedicated to preserving and enhancing the long-term health of Big Sandy Lake. With respect for future generations, its mission focuses on protecting and improving water quality, promoting best-practice shoreline management, and fostering a thoughtful balance between property owner rights and existing or proposed environmental regulations. Through education, leadership, and leading by example, the association plays a vital role in sustaining the lake’s natural beauty and usability.

One of its signature outreach efforts is the annual “Love Your Lake” event, a free gathering open to the public. Traditionally held each spring at Minnesota National Golf Club, the event invites members and community residents to enjoy a complimentary breakfast while engaging with expert speakers. Presentations center on practical ways to be responsible lake stewards, covering topics such as water quality, shoreline management, septic system best practices, and updates on aquatic invasive species. Themes are guided by current issues affecting the lake community.

In 2026, the event will take place Saturday, July 25, with a focus on “Best Practices for Septic Systems.” Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by breakfast at 9:00 a.m. and programming at 9:30 a.m. Seating is limited, and attendees are encouraged to RSVP in advance.
